“The healing power of art was so apparent during the whole experience!” Mama C observed.

“The spontaneous release of love that comes from poetry and music and art, in general…that thing that binds us all together and builds solidarity and understanding among all people no matter where they are from or what language they speak, is like magic!”

During the Heal the Community 2011 tour, Mama Charlotte will continue to bring those creative healing properties and inspiration to communities in America where she has been touring for the last several years, while speaking on the more than two decades of UAACC community outreach in America and East Africa.

l  More about the Leaders of Tomorrow Children’s Home…

United African Alliance Community Center UAACC continues to grow organically both in outreach and solutions!  This has been a successful, relevant approach for the more than twenty years that we have been serving and organizing in the AruMeru community in Tanzania.

As more and more families and children in particular become affected by the urban migration of rural populations in our region and negative influences of alcoholism and disease combined with tough economic realities, more and more children in our communities are in need of care, nurturing and guidance.
In helping to address this need we at UAACC have endeavored to provide a home for some of these children in great and urgent need.  We presently have 21 children from ages of 5 to 15 living at Leaders of Tomorrow Children’s Home at UAACC.

Emmy award winning film maker Lisa Russell from Brooklyn, New York lead a workshop at UAACC. UAACC alumnae Anwary Msechu and Levina Kinyaiya, of Kilimanjaro Film Institute participated

Through years of experience we have seen the affects of empowerment upon young people…the self esteem and release of creativity and spontaneous desire for healthy, balanced lifestyles full of creativity and sharing is amazing…and much of this empowerment comes from the exploration and release of the ‘artist within’ all of us.

So in addition to the health care, food, clothing, shelter, education and love that these children receive, they will have the opportunity to be mentored by experienced artists in all spheres including dance and music; fine arts; music production; film making; hip hop/poetry/spoken word; design; sports; yoga; community theater and public speaking at UAACC

We are determined that these young people will be confident, creative, loving, humane and globally aware leaders of tomorrow through community support and guidance
